About Japanese American Citizens League Seattle Chapter
The Japanese American Citizens League Seattle Chapter is the local branch of the nation's oldest Asian American civil and human rights organization, dedicated to advancing civil rights and social justice in Seattle, WA and beyond. Founded on principles of equality and fair play, the Seattle Chapter provides comprehensive community advocacy, educational programming, and cultural preservation services. The organization addresses critical issues including civil rights protection for Japanese Americans and all Asian Pacific Americans, redress and education regarding World War II wartime experiences, hate crime prevention and response, and US-Japan relations. Beyond advocacy work, the Seattle Chapter actively supports the community through leadership training programs, scholarship opportunities, and cultural events including the Seattle Cherry Blossom Festival and Japanese Cultural Festival. The organization works strategically to build alliances with other communities of color, recognizing that civil rights protections benefit from unified voices and shared commitment to justice. With a dedicated executive committee and board of engaged members, the Seattle Chapter combines decades of institutional knowledge with the energy and perspectives of newer generations committed to ensuring equality and justice for all. Whether through direct civil rights advocacy, educational initiatives, or cultural programming, the Seattle Chapter remains actively engaged in addressing both historical injustices and contemporary challenges facing Asian Americans and other marginalized communities.
